The Amazing Race: North York Basics
How does the Amazing Race work?
The Amazing Race: North York is an event, based loosely on the reality television game show, in which teams of up to four people race around North York in competition with other teams. Contestants strive to arrive first at the “pit stop” at the end of the race. Teams, competing in either the car or bike class, will travel to various locations across North York that are of specific interest to Youth Unlimited or the city itself. The clues in each location point the teams to the next destination or direct them to perform a task. These task challenges will often be related to the Youth Unlimited (YU) programs where they are located. The event will end with a BBQ lunch.
What’s the Amazing Race all about?
Through a fun and exciting event, the goal of the Amazing Race: North York is to:
- Raise awareness about how and where Youth Unlimited is helping youth fulfill their life potential across this part of the city; and
- Raise funds to support the staff, programs and overall ministry of Youth Unlimited in North York.
How can I help raise money for Youth Unlimited through this event?
There are two main ways:
- Central to the whole event is each team member having people sponsor them through pledges of support to compete in the Amazing Race and win ‘the chase’. These pledges will go to support YU in North York.
- You can also making a general pledge of support to the event and YU North York through our online giving page here.
Count me in! I want to join the chase, how do I sign up?
- Decide [a] if you’d like to get a few friends to race with you (up to 4 on one team) and [b] whether you’d like to bike or drive, and then register either as an individual or a team of 2, 3, or 4.
- Have each team member register online and then print off a sponsor pledge form from the website to begin getting sponsors for your Amazing Race! (Coming soon!)
Sounds like too much excitement for me, how can I still be involved?
You can, of course, make a general pledge of support to the event as a whole, or ask us for a team you could sponsor. But, we’d really like you to enjoy the day, so if you don’t want to participate in the Amazing Race itself, we’d love for you to come to the BBQ lunch once the race is done!
