The Amazing Race Event Details
The Amazing Race: North York is a morning event that ends with a BBQ lunch.
Where and when do we meet to start the Race?
We will meet on Saturday, May 8th, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, which is at the corner of Don Mills Road and Finch Avenue (map here). The race will start at 10 am sharp and should be completed around 12:30 (that’s up to the “Racers”!). Then we will have an informal BBQ lunch.
Who exactly can participate?
All are welcome! Teams of up to four will compete in ‘the chase’. Challenges in the Amazing Race are geared for those 12 years and older, but your younger children and friends are more than welcome to tag along with your team as cheerleaders.
What’s the Amazing Race course like?
To give you an idea from last year’s race:
- For those competing in cars, the course had five ‘detour’ challenges over 35 kms.
- For those competing on bicycles, the course had three ‘detour’ challenges over 25 kms.
And no, we won’t make you eat anything disgusting. We don’t like wasting food. : )
What do I need to do as a participant before May 8th?
- Find people to sponsor you to participate in the Amazing Race! There is a minimum $25 sponsorship required to participate (yes, you can sponsor yourself too). Prizes will be awarded for the “most-sponsored” team!
- You may also want to invest in some team building exercises and an intensive training regimen…depending how serious you take the Amazing Race. (That was an attempt at humour…)
What else should I know?
- Snacks will be provided at various stops along the course of the Amazing Race to keep you going!
- There will be a BBQ lunch following the race, beginning around approximately 12:30 p.m. You are welcome to stay as long as you wish to learn more about YU and how to support and get involved in one of our programs in North York.
- Other prizes to be awarded include: Winners of the Amazing Race, Best Team Outfit, Best Teamwork, and The “Outlier” Prize for Youngest and Oldest Participants.
